Heroines

This series honors (often overlooked) women in history from life and literature. Patsy Mink grew up in Maui and became the first Asian American woman to be elected to US Congress. She fought for equal rights and championed Title IX into law. Bessie Coleman, the first Black American female pilot, is portrayed as a falcon rising up after falling from a plane. Dr. Yamei Kin was a popular health expert in the 1920’s, and founded the first nursing school in China.
