Kate Barrengos lives in Marin County, California and maintains a studio in Sausalito. Her work explores the natural world, including aerial and abstracted landscapes, as well as, still life and anthropomorphic portraiture of heroic women. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Kate studied biology and art at the University of Nebraska. In 1988, she moved to San Francisco. She continued her art education at the College of Marin where she received awards for watercolor painting. Her work is always evolving, toggling between realism and abstraction. Painting primarily with acrylic on linen, she uses color and line to create both tension and balance. Her work examines the impact people make on the earth, and how nature and civilization collide.

She has exhibited at the deYoung Museum of Art, di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, and Bedford Gallery. Her work is in several private and corporate collections, including Charles Schwab. She exhibits her work regularly in the Bay Area, and is represented by Blue Print Gallery in Dallas.
